Star Wars redesign by korpehn Star Wars redesign by korpehn
Did a redesign of Darth Vader and a storm trooper, placing them in Japan with like semi historically accurate equipment.  The comp is a reference / homage to Darth Vader's reveal scene in the first movie.

Process images over at my art station: www.artstation.com/artwork/lor…

Prints available here: society6.com/product/lord-vade…

Thanks for looking!

It's kind of funny to me, since Darth Vader's helmet was actually designed after a samurai helmet...:D (Big Grin)

Yes, that and all the other Japanese influences on the star wars franchise was the motivation for doing this painting.

Holy moley, that is both authentic and bad-ass at the same time.  Well done! =D

God, this is fun.
So often it seems like when someone redsigns Star Wars in Japan it ends up being really soulless and usually more pretentious than anything.
But this is so cinematic and so well-framed that the redesign part is almost incedental.  And then it also has the virtue of being a really good, fun redesign.  I like this a lot.

Fun Fact: Star Wars was inspired by Akira Kurosawa's The Hidden Fortress.

In any case, this is outstanding work - you did a fantastic job translating the style of Star Wars into medieval Japan. Well done!

This looks very awesome! :D It's funny to know that Vaders outfit was based on that of the samurai, with a German touch to it. This piece of art could very well look as if its a scene from a samurai movie :).

New from RucasFilms, it's Shogun Wars.

The Shogunate unleashes the terrifying Shin-Hoshi, a heavily-fortified mobile castle. during an attack on their caravan making their way to Edo, Lady Orugana has no choice to to entrust her servants Si'Sanpo and Tofudetu with a final message to deliver to Wan Kei Nobi, a retired Samurai.

ships would be gliders and/or dragons
Yoda would be a tengu, one of the small ones
the ATAT's would be giant turtles with cannons
Palpatine would be a long-nosed tengu
Jabba the Hutt would be a retired sumo wrestler who parties too hard and slurs his words.
Boba Fett would be a Mandarin bounty hunter hired to bring down the Eurasian smuggler Hun Solo and his hairy companion Chu-Baka.

well, Darth Vader's helmet was inspired by the style of Japanese samurai. No wonder this fits so well

This is AMAZING!!!! I can totally imagine you doing a samurai / feudal Japan style scene of Luke in Jabba's throne room.
All the crazy samurai outfits and details you could pull off with your style!

Brilliant work!

Tjusigt! älskar konceptet, och du har verkligen lyckats fånga in känslan och de små detaljerna. Är det en rebellsymbol jag ser på taken där?
